the Dukes presents...
Play in the Park 2008 - "Beauty and the Beast"!
A new adaptation by Kevin Dyer
Directed by Joe Sumsion
Designed by Alison Heffernan
The Dukes goes back to its roots for another summer of magical open-air theatre for all the family. This deliciously dark and seriously surprising new adaptation follows the original fairy-tale of the Beast who must find true love in order to return to human form. The innocent young woman, Beauty, may be just the one he is looking for…
The magnificent Victorian vistas, woodlands and dells of Williamson Park might have been made for this compelling tale of nature, love and transformation. Join us out in the elements for Beauty’s journey of discovery as she bravely ventures into the woods… and you too will come face to face with the Beast.
The evening is brought spectacularly to life, as the audience follows the play to different locations in the park. Magical lighting, sound, fire and live music all entwine, promising an evening of theatre to delight adventurous adults and brave children. But be warned…mystery lurks in the shadows and this is no Disney cartoon. Children – your grown-ups may need a hand to hold!
