It is a cornerstone of 20th century theatre and the greatest play by one of the most significant writers of his generation. And in this brand new adaptation, The Cherry Orchard returns to its comedic roots, bringing all of its colour, energy and vision to life. Yet wherever there’s comedy,
there’s tragedy too!
All is not well in the world as Ranyevskaya. They are losing their home and beloved cherry orchard forever. She’s so poor she has to borrow money off the servant. All her brother can talk about is billiards. And all the footman can do is mutter about pickled cucumbers. But set against
larger-than-life characters, Chekhov’s dazzling dialogue and wonderful live music are the painful emotions of a family forced to move on from their ancestral home in society that’s changing forever.
From nationally-acclaimed company, Blackeyed Theatre, comes an inspiring production of Chekhov’s masterpiece. Exhuberant, hilarious and ultimately very touching.
